Since the 19th century, thanks to the creation of the railway line Paris-Lyon-Marseilles in 1854, the regions of Provence, Alps and the French Riviera were visited and painted by famous painters who were full of admiration for the Mediterranean landscapes and the change of the light. Cezanne, Pissarro, Van Gogh, Monet were some of the impressionist painters that used to visit the Provence region.
