INTRODUCTION TO CITIES and VILLAGES VISITED
ANTIBES. This city is in a region where develops an industrial production of flowers. In the museum Picasso some of the paintings of big dimension of the painter can be admired.
BEAULIEU. Surrounded by hills which protect it from winds, Beaulieu is a very well appreciated resort, above all in summer but also during winter. Its numerous gardens give a particular charm. The Greek villa «Kérylos», which is a faithful reconstruction of a house of antique Greece, deserves a visit.
BIOT. Picturesque town with an important production of flowers as well as ceramic of art handicraft, and where Fernand's Léger memory, Cubist and modern painter, is always alive.
CANNES. Of the small port situated in the gulf of Napoule that Lord Brougham knew in 1834, there are few things. Cannes is now a beautiful and modern city where, among the other important events, takes place the International Festival of the Film which is a very notorious one in the cinématographic world. To walk throughout the boulevard of Croisette is a «must».
EZE. This village, inhabited by Celts, Ligures, Phéniciens, Romans and Saracens, is on a very beautiful site. Its old houses are carefully restored and are occupied by shops or by artists' workshops. The ruins of its ancient chateau are surrounded by an exotic garden.
GRASSE. In the 14th and 15th centuries it was an important manufacturing center of leather articles, Grasse became the capital of the perfume shop for the XVIth century, when the glover of Cathérine de Medicis started to perfume her gloves. It is a city with a lot of charm.
LA TURBIE. This village situated at 480 m height, on the «Grande Cornice»:, offers one of the most beautiful panoramas on Monaco and Monte-Carlo. Turbie preserves the Trophy of the Alps, famous master-piece of the Roman art.
MONACO. This principality of 197 ha of surface, with about 30 000 inhabitants, receives several million visitors a year. It includes: the «Roché de Monaco» where are the Palace; the Cathedral and the Oceanographic museum, Monte Carlo with its Casino; luxury hotels and its beaches, Condamine that is the commercial district sheltering the port, and Fontvielle with the sports complex of the stadium Louis III and the landscaped garden where you can admire the Rose garden Princess Grace with more than 3 500 varieties of rosebushes.
MONTE-CARLO. This name evokes casinos, luxury hotels, rich villas, and luxurious shops. Its Casino, built by Charles Garnier in 1878, is surrounded with beautiful gardens and is situated in the extremity of a remarkable terrace. It is in this part of the principality that the most importing works were made to gain ground in the sea, and where impressive modern constructions can be seen.
NICE. It is the capital of Côte d´Azur and one of the most important summer resorts of the Mediterranean Sea. Since the 2nd World war and thanks to the sweetness of its climate, Nice is a privileged and selected place by a rich international clientele, for the charm of its site and the numerous places of interest which it offers. Tourist and administrative city, Nice is also a cultural centre by its University, National School of the Decorative arts, Conservatoire, museums and so on...
ST PAUL de VENCE. Surrounded by ramparts dating from the time of François I, Saint Paul de Vence is one of the most visited villages in France. It is frequented by artists, painters and intellectuals. The Maeght foundation, Contemporary Art Museum, is one of its places of interest.
VENCE Tourist, commercial and climatic city, Vence is a place that was inhabitated by the Romans. The «Chapelle du Rosaire» was decorated by Matisse, he considered that work as the masterpiece of his career.
VILLEFRANCHE. Situated in one of the most beautiful natural harbours of the Mediterranean Sea, Villefranche Sur Mer, fishing port and sea resort, preserved its charm of the 17th century.
TRIP to the FRENCH RIVIERA
Day 1. NICE/ ST PAUL DE VENCE
Arrival transfer from the airport to the Mas d'Artigny in Saint Paul de Vence. Accommodation.
Day 2. ST PAUL DE VENCE
After the breakfast, departure for a day excursion to Vence, Grasse and Cannes.
