ESCAPE TO BURGUNDY - 3 day trip
Day 1. PARIS / CHABLIS / DIJON / VOUGEOT
PARIS. On the morning, departure from Paris, towards Chablis.
CHABLIS is a small town of a bit more than 2.500 inhabitants, edged by the river Serein, and renowned for the quality its vineyard. The wine of Chablis is a wine of Chardonnay, coming from white cabernet grape of Burgundy and Champagne. This wine is dry and light, with a yellow color and green reflection, and a very refined bouquet. It is generally served with shellfish, oysters or some fish. This Chardonnay needs to be cool to be drink.
Your driver-courier will continue towards Dijon, prefecture of Cote d’Or. DIJON. Created since the end of the first century after Christ, by the Romans, Dijon is well known for being the city of the Great Dukes of Burgundy. The historic center of Dijon is mainly known for its Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, which was the seat of sovereigns of the Duchy of Burgundy; nowadays, it contains a part of the past Ducal Palace, becoming on the 17th century the Palace of the Dukes, and now, being the City Hall and the Museum of Beaux-Arts. Behind the Palace, you can also see Notre-Dame Church and the Place of the Dukes of Burgundy.
At the end of the day, you driver-courier will drive you to VOUGEOT, where is located the sumptuous four-star hotel: The Chateau of Gilly. Accommodation and dinner.
Day 2. VOUGEOT/ CLOS VOUGEOT CHATEAU/ NUITS ST-GEORGES/ BEAUNE
VOUGEOT.After breakfast, your driver-courier will take you to discover the Clos Vougeot Chateau.
The CLOS VOUGEOT CHATEAU is one of the most famous Burgundian “Chateaux” of the wine-producing sector. It is situated in the middle of the vineyard of Clos Vougeot, close to the Road of Grands Crus, liking Dijon to Beaune. It is also one of the most important places of international promotion of Burgundy’s wines and of its gastronomy.
NUITS-SAINT-GEORGES. This small town of Cote d’Or, crossed by the Meuzin River, is also the appellation of excellent white wines. The world-famous vineyard, suggests stronger wines than other wines in Burgundy.
The town has a nice Romanesque church, built at the end of the 17th century: Saint-Symphorien Church, but also a belfry that was part of the past city hall and the Saint-Laurent Hospital, both built in the 17th century.
BEAUNE, capital of the Burgundian vineyards, is also a very nice city of art notably with its Hotel-Dieu, its collegial Notre-Dame, its Hotel of Rochepot and finally its battlements of the feudal period.
Back to the Chateau of Gilly, in Vougeot. Breakfast, accommodation and dinner.
Day 3. VOUGEOT / AUTUN / VEZELAY / PARIS
VOUGEOT. After breakfast, you driver-courier will take you to AUTUN. This small town of Soane-et-Loire, and of 15.000 inhabitants, was one of the big Romans Catholic capitals and kept vestiges of the Antiquity and of the Middle-Age, such as its battlements, its Roman theater, and its Saint-Lazare Cathedral.
The tour goes towards VEZELAY, small village of 600 inhabitants, located on a small hill, about fifty kilometers away from Auxerre. There was a time when it has attracted many intellectuals such as Romain Rolland, Paul Claudel, Pablo Picasso… If Vezelay is famous, it is thanks to its Sainte-Madeleine Basilica. It is an important place of pilgrimage thanks to the relics of Sainte-Madeleine and which of the most noteworthy vestiges are the great door’s eardrum and the capitals.
Way back to PARIS by the highway. Arrival and end of our services. Breakfast.
