Day 1. PARIS
PARIS. Arrival. The room at the hotel is available since 3 PM. The capital of France is located on a fertile plain in the confluence of the river Seine and the Marne. We hear lots of things concerning the « Ville Lumière », but Josephine Baker made the best synthesis of all this by saying: « I have two loves, my country and Paris ». As she did, many visitors say this sentence after having visited Paris and swear to come back very soon! Accommodation.
Day 2. PARIS/ ROUEN/ HONFLEUR/ LANDING BEACHES/ CAEN
ROUEN. Capital of the High Normandy. Visit of « Notre Dame » cathedral, master piece of the Gothic art: its façade was source of inspiration to the famous painter Monet. Walk around the old Rouen: the St. Maclou church, fine example of the Gothic art, the « Vieux Horloge » street and the Old Market, where Joan of Arc was burnt at the age of 19 years old. HONFLEUR. It was a famous place during the XIX century, visited by painters like Boudin, Sisley, Pisarro, Renoir and Cezanne. Walk around the « Vieux Honfleur ». LANDING BEACHES. Tour along Arromanches, Longues-sur-Mer, Saint Laurent and Omaha Beach, where vestiges of the great exploit of the 2nd World War are preserved. CAEN. Capital of the Low-Normandy. Visit of the Peace Memorial, where thanks to the advanced technology, a travel through collective memory is done: from the 1st World War to our days. Breakfast and accommodation.
Day 3. CAEN/ MOUNT SAINT MICHEL/ SAINT MALO/ ANGERS
MOUNT SAINT MICHEL. « The wonder of the Occident ». During the Middle Ages it was an important pilgrimage place and knew its most glorious times during the XV century. We suggest a visit of the abbey: its extraordinary situation and wonderful architecture make of it the most beautiful of all the abbeys in France. SAINT MALO. The famous and amazing « City of the corsairs ». Stroll along the walls and the old part of the city. ANGERS. The city, where Eleanor of Aquitaine was born, preserves many moments of the Middle Ages History. The tapestry of the Apocalypse, showed in its castle, is the oldest and the largest that we can admire nowadays. Breakfast and accommodation.
Day 4. ANGERS/ SAUMUR/ AZAY LE RIDEAU/ VILLANDRY/ TOURS
SAUMUR. Famous for its equestrian activities and its wines. A wine tasting in one of its cellars is recommended. AZAY LE RIDEAU. « Diamond of thousands faces », according to Balzac, it is one of the most amazing pieces of Renaissance architecture. With a medieval appearance, it represents elegance and luxury by its furniture, decoration and tapestry. VILLANDRY. It is one of the last castles built along the river Loire during the Renaissance; it distinguishes itself by its rectangular buildings taking place instead of former round towers, as well as by its gardens that are considered as one of the most beautiful of France. TOURS. It is located between the Loire and Cher rivers. Visit of the « Vieux Tours », around the Plumereau square and the St Martin basilica, which was an important pilgrimage place. Breakfast and accommodation.
Day 5. TOURS/ CHENONCEAU/ AMBOISE/ CHAMBORD/ PARIS
CHENONCEAU. The Castle of the Ladies. It was inhabited by 6 ladies, but only 3 of them have glorified this castle: Catherine de Briçonet, Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medicis. AMBOISE. This city knew success in the XV century at the time of François I. It was here that the French king housed Leonard da Vinci at the Clos-Luce, at the end of his life. CHAMBORD. Impressive masterpiece of François I, it was the first representation of the architectural kings megalomania, which will be well represented in the Versailles palace. PARIS.
