in COTE d'AZUR -FRENCH RIVIERA-, ALPS,
RHONE VALLEY and PROVENCE - 10 DAYS

  • Historical and general information concerning the places visited will be given by the driver, except inside museums, monuments, castles and others.


Day 1. NICE
NICE. Arrival. The rooms at the hotel are available since 3 PM. The capital of the Cote d'Azur faces the Mediterranean sea. Since its foundation by the Greeks, it has been a very important city. Romans left there numerous vestiges. It was an Italian city untill 1860, its constructions keep their architectural caracteristics of that country. Accomodation.

Day 2. NICE/ ST PAUL DE VENCE/ GRASSE/ AIX-EN-PROVENCE
ST PAUL DE VENCE. Surrounded by medieval walls, it is one of the most visited towns in France. GRASSE. It is the capital of perfumes since 1580 when a manufacturer of gloves, member of the royal court of Catalina de Medicis, began to perfume them. Possibility of visiting a perfume's factory. AIX-EN-PROVENCE. Important university city. The elegance of its buildings, the charm of its gardens and its fountains, as well as the harmony of its avenues make a pleasant impression on tourists. Breakfast and accommodation.

Day 3. AIX-EN-PROVENCE/ SISTERON/ GRENOBLE
SISTERON. Also named « the Door of the Provence », is located in a surprising place between the mountains and the river Durance and at the middle of the famous « Route de Napoleon ». GRENOBLE. The capital of the Dauphiné region has a modern sight and is situated at the feet of the Alps. It was the town of the Olympic Games in 1968. We suggest a visit to the Bastille fortress, climbing by cable car, from where can be appreciated an exceptional panoramic view of the city and the mountains. Breakfast and accommodation.

Day 4. GRENOBLE/ THE ALPS/ MEGEVE/ CHAMONIX
THE ALPS. Spectacular chain of mountains. The « Mont Blanc », with 4 807 metres high, is the highest mountain. During this journey some of the famous towns and winter resorts can be admired. MEGEVE. It is a luxury summer and winter resort and has an international reputation. CHAMONIX. Beautiful and well known city thanks to its sking and mountain climbing sport. It has been the city of the Olympic Games in 1924 and 1937. Excursion to the Ice Sea, to admire the wonderful landscape formed by mountains that surrounds it. Breakfast and accommodation.

Day 5. CHAMONIX/ ANNECY/ PEROUGES/ LYON
ANNECY. This charming city captivates tourists with its landscapes formed by mountains, vegetation and water. PEROUGES. It still preserves intact the medieval buildings and its stoned streets. LYON. Harmoniously situated between the rivers Saone and Rhone, it seems to hang above the hills of « Fourvière » and « Croix Rousse ». Along its 20 centuries of history, it has been an important focus of religion, industry, art and commerce. It is considered as the capital of gastronomy. Breakfast and accommodation.

Day 6. LYON. Excursion to BEAUJOLAIS.
LYON. In the morning, tour of the city : the hill of Fourvière, the Church of « la Vierge de Fourvière », the vestiges of the Roman theatre, the old Lyon to see important and representative whole of houses of the Renaissance times, and the Saint Jean cathedral. In the afternoon, we proposed to visit the BEAUJOLAIS area. Its vineyards cover the hills, and the beautiful mansions show the richness of this region. Possibility of visiting and tasting Beaujolais wine in the « Hameau en Beaujolais », in Romaneche-Thorins, in order to travel all along the wine history. Breakfast and accommodation

Day 7. LYON/ ORANGE/ AVIGNON
ORANGE. It has two of the most important Roman monuments : The Arc of Triumph and the Theatre Antique. This one was built by Emperor Augustus and is one of the most well conserved theatre from those times. AVIGNON. Capital of Christianity in the XIV century, when 7 popes were French. To visit the city: the
« Notre-Dame des Doms » cathedral, the Doms hill and its gardens, the famous bridge of Avignon and the Palace of the Popes. Breakfast and accomodation.

Day 8. AVIGNON/ PONT DU GARD/ LES BAUX DE PROVENCE/ ARLES/ MARSEILLE
PONT DU GARD. Roman aqueduct of three levels, it is a master-piece of the Antiquity. LES BAUX DE PROVENCE. Surprising town located at the top of a hill. It was the town of a prestigious court during the medieval times and place of inspiration of troubadours' poetry. ARLES. It still preserves many Roman vestiges. It was the city of the quarrel between Van Gogh and Gauguin. MARSEILLE. It is the oldest French city. To visit the old port protected by the fortress of Saint Jean and Saint Nicolas, and « Notre Dame de la Garde » basilica. Breakfast and accommodation.

Day 9. MARSEILLE/ CASSIS/ ST TROPEZ/ NICE
CASSIS. The light of this little port captivated many painters like Matisse and Dufy. We propose to make a cruise to « les Calanques » -narrow and steep creeks of rocky walls-. ST TROPEZ. Small port of fishers, it was launched by the painter Signac who used to invite often his post-impressionists friends. It is now a summer resort for the « jet-set » as well as celebrities of art, literature, cinema and « showbiz » of the whole world. NICE. Arrival at the hotel at the end of the day. Breakfast and accomodation.

Day 10. NICE.
NICE. Breakfast, end of our services.
