BRUGES, Belgium. (12 hours )
Bruges, with its typical houses and old streets, welcomes you with pleasure.
Since the 11th century, Bruges has been a centre of international market thanks to its location next to the sea and to its textile production. At the beginning of the 15th century, it was one of the cities under control of the Burgundy's Dukes. It became a financial city and specialized in art. Its decay began at the beginning of the 16th century, at the same time of the Religious War.
From the 16th to the 19th century, Bruges was annexed to Spain, to Austria, to France and to Netherlands. It became independent in 1830.
In 2000, the UNESCO declared it as World Heritage City and in 2002 appointed the European Capital of Culture.
